How do I make a flexible working request?

First determine whether you will be making a statutory or non-statutory flexible working request.

A statutory working request must be in writing with a date and state that it is a statutory request for flexible working. It must also set out the flexible working pattern you are requesting, how it may impact employer and colleagues, whether a previous request has been made, whether you are at a disadvantage due to sex, race, disability, age, religion or belief or sexual orientation. It may be helpful to give a reason for why you are making a request, although this is not necessary, it may help the employer make a decision.

There is no set format for a non-statutory flexible working request but it is best to get it in writing so there is no discrepancy, include the working pattern you are requesting, how the proposed changes may affect the employer and/or colleagues and why you are making the request. It may be helpful to give a reason for why you are making a request, although this is not necessary, it may help the employer make a decision.
